Here's pix of my friend Skip Lunch and his girlfriend, Chery, playing punk
rock on state-sponsored TV in China. Skip lives there, and teaches English.
The drummer is his girlfriend. He's the one with the mike and the smile. It's
on a show called "Who's Brighterly Shining" (sic). It's their "American
Idol".
They were the only act that actually played their own instruments. Everyone
else was either karaoke or hip hop dancing.
Skip has been my friend longer than almost anyone. I've known him for 21 years, and he introduced me to punk rock. We talk all the time over the Internet, for free, using Skype
Chinese Rocks!
The band is called "YOU MEI YOU"/ pronounced like "yo-may-yo"
means "have-not-have"
originally the haves and the have- nots ,
but they have no ands or thes in chinese so....
